SydStart 2013 Slide Suggestions

Every pitch presentation is different, the world would be pretty boring if business were all the same. Here are some slide suggestions. All are optional, most are useful for a good result. These are things to think about. They won’t all apply to every business. This sample set has 8 slides total.

Title Slide – Open

  • Logo/brand
  • Strapline or slogan or mission or vision
  • Speakers name
  • This slide and the last slide are the ones that will have the most photos and video time of them,
  • Even before you start speaking this slide will probably be up

Market

  • Specifics. Addressable. Really.
  • Numbers
  • Independent verification.
  • Don’t say ‘people with mobile phones or internet access’.
  • What characteristics are important and specifically prove your point about the problem

Team

  • Why are they qualified for this business
  • Why are they more likely to succeed and win globally than the next team
  • Personal motivation

Problem

  • What is the problem?
  • Who has this problem?
  • Where are they?
  • How do you find them? Characteristics.
  • Show the emotion. The pain. The dire need for and pain of heart surgery this is not time to talk about mild issues or vitamins.
  • Good time for humour.

Solution

  • Innovation – Why are you different? What is your secret sauce. Originality. X Factor. More?
  • Why it solves the problem
  • Screen shot or product picture – or – only if it is really good – a demo video.
  • You almost certainly will NOT have time to do a demo but showing a step 1 2 3 slide can help

Traction

  • Traction – Data. Surveys. Profit. Signups. Evidence of Execution. Traffic. Customer interest. Adoption. Revenue.
  • Some or all the above. More?
  • Testimonials
  • Differentiators!

Why You Will Win

  • Defensible – Why will you stay ahead and not be de-throned.
  • Intellectual Property – IP.
  • Community.
  • Marketplace Liquidity.
  • First mover. More?

Title – Close

  • Contact details
  • Brand/Logo
  • Website, Twitter etc…
  • Maybe something catchy, fun, memorable that will reinforce your key messages. Repeat humour from above.
