One of the last large vacant tracts in northwest suburban Des Plaines will be developed with 118 single-family homes by Kennedy Group Limited Partnership.

Kylemore Greens, the new 57-acre subdivision, is on the east side of Wolf Road, a quarter-mile north of Central Street. The land formerly was owned by the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Inspiration for the development`s name came from Kylemore Abbey, a monastery in Ireland.

Site improvements are under way, but the three models are not expected to be open until fall.

Meanwhile, preconstruction sales will be conducted at an on-site sales center.

Kylmore Greens will offer at least eight styles of ranch and two-story houses, with three or four bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths, according to William Gronow, Kennedy`s vice president of marketing and sales.

The houses will range from 2,000 to 3,400 square feet and from $250,900 to $311,900.

The average lot will be in excess of 11,000 square feet.

Depending on the stage of construction, the homes can be customized to accommodate buyers` preferences.

Gronow said the subdivision expects to attract moveup buyers who want to be near Chicago.

Existing homes are south of the new subdivision and also across Wolf Road. North of Kylemore Greens is vacant land; railroad tracks are to the east.
