This page is your orientation to the wiki.

Please read through the entire page before moving on.

The purpose of this wiki is to review Cognitive Learning Theory

and assess its value from the perspective of a classroom teacher.

To this end,

we have constructed the wiki

according to many of the principles of Cognitive Learning Theories

including the use of graphic organizers, highlighting and chunking of information and "real world" examples.

Whenever you see the blue "StickTeacher" (The first one appears lower on this page),

you're being provided with a thought question or activity (for members of ETEC512sec.64B)

to which you may respond in the

Cognitive Approaches to Learning Symposium.

*Please note, blue highlighted information provides quick access to additional resources - some of them are surprising and even humourous!)

*Each page also includes a chat feature  and link to our del.ic.ious site.

*These affordances are intended to promote meta-cognition as you participate in the activities and review the information presented.

     K-W-L

To activate your learning and access your knowledge, we ask that you complete a K-W-L.

(click on the underlined K-W-L to download the word doc).

KWL thought question:

What do you Know and Wonder about applying Cognitive Learning Theory?

Please make some quick notes in the K and W sections prior to looking through the wiki!.Please share your KWL in the Symposium Site when you're done.

This concept map illustrates the various aspects of our wiki, including a classroom "field test" of Cognitive Learning Strategies (Cognitive learning theory in action)

Navigation:

Please click on the concept map to view a larger scrollable map

and to enter the rest of the presentation.

Towards the bottom of each page, there is a "NEXT STOP" link

to direct you to the next page in the wiki.

(you may also navigate by selecting items in the "SideBar" at right)
