Additional Laboratory Requirement

This three-credit course has only two scheduled classroom hours. The additional hour which justifies the three-credits of this course will take place online. Therefore, in addition to the regularly scheduled class laboratory periods, students will be expected to spend at least one additional hour accessing the course over the web using either the COSC laboratory or other facilities.

Additional open-lab hours will be supervised by the teaching assistant and these will be held each Wednesday and Friday from 8 AM to 10 AM. If your section meets Wednesday for lab, you should plan on attending the open lab on Fridays. If your section meets Friday for lab, you should plan on attending the open lab on Wednesdays.

Policy on Cheating and Plagiarism

Cheating and plagiarism have no place in the academic environment. DO NOT TURN IN WORK THAT HAS BEEN COPIED FROM SOMEBODY ELSE. DO NOT LET YOUR WORK BE COPIED.

Laboratory assignments must be each student's own, unassisted work. Examples of cheating include: reading from unauthorized sources or from another students work during a quiz, copying another person's work from their diskette or from a hard drive, typing another person's work, and, in general, not taking responsibility for one's own learning. Make sure that you are doing your own work.

Cases of cheating or plagiarism on laboratory assignments or examinations will result in a score of zero for the particular work, a possible F grade for the course, and/or dismissal from the University.

Class and examination makeup policy

There will be no makeups for missed classes or examinations. Students with an excused absence will be allowed to omit the missed class or examination from the grading formula.

Excused absences include Varsity team travel, religious holiday observance, or illness of the student. If you know about the absense in advance, or as soon as practical after the absence, you should contact the Instructor by the special communication form (not by email). It will be the responsibility of the student to show written documentation supporting the absence, from your team coach, physician, or other relevent authority.

Policy on Late Submission of Assignments

This course uses a system of digital submission of homework assignments. Each assignment has a time window and a definite due date. These due dates are given on the course schedule and also in the web portal calendar system. Students must keep track of due dates and should submit their assignments well ahead of the deadline.

The computers in COSC laboratory facilities should be used for submitting assignments. Other computers may be used if they are convenient, but these are often not suitable for submitting assignments. Network or computer difficulties on non COSC laboratory computers will not be allowed as an excuse for failure to submit assignments on time.

Because of the many assignments, each assignment has been kept to relatively small point values, so in case you lose points because of some problem, do not be overly concerned about it, but instead, work even harder to complete the remaining assignments on time.

For properly documented extreme emergencies, where the student had no way of anticipating the situation, missed assignments may be omitted from the grading equation.

Policy on Repeating the Course

Towson State University policy states that a course may not be repeated more than once without prior permission from the Academic Standards Committee.

COSC Laboratory Policies

You will be held responsible for reading and understanding these COSC lab policy documents posted online and instructions posted in the laboratories.
