Discussions

1. Select the discussion topic entitled Welcome. As a way of becoming acquainted with one another and beginning the process of exploring ourselves in relation to communication, you are invited in the first discussion to share:
   
   • a little bit about yourself (e.g., where you're from, occupation, family, etc.)
   • one reflection, experience or question in relation to the reflections shared in the Introduction about the importance of communication in the promotion of health
   • something you already know about yourself as a communicator (please include at least one strength and one challenge/area for growth)
   • what your hopes and fears are regarding this course
     
2. Select the discussion topic entitled Ground Rules. It is important that we spend some time early in our interactions clarifying what we believe to be important ground rules for our communication as a community of learners. These ground rules will assist us to interact in ways which create a positive learning atmosphere and promote effective discussion. They will also be used as one of the evaluation criterion for participation in discussions.
   
   Please post at least 3 items which you want to see included in our ground rules. Once everyone has posted their items, the course facilitator will compile these and post a summary of key themes for the group's discussion & approval.
   
   In addition, please post a response to the draft of ground rules compiled by the course facilitator. The facilitator will post the final version of ground rules once they have been approved by the group. Your input is vital to building our online community of learners - your ideas and preferences are eagerly anticipated!
   
3. If at any time throughout the course you have questions or need more information or clarity regarding the evaluation methods please post your question or comment on the discussion board. Click on Discussions on the left side of your screen under Course Menu. This will take you to the discussion tool; select Questions and Answers topic. If you have a question, there are likely other learners with the same question. Your question promotes the learning of all!

The course facilitator's initial postings re: the above questions will serve as an example to help you get started. Please see also the Criteria for Marking Discussions as a guideline for type/length of responses to questions. Note, however, that Week 1 discussions will not be marked.
